Home learning for Year 1 - Sparrows

Week Beginning 1st June

Dear Sparrows Parents and Children,

This week there will be children returning to school. However, if you've made the decision to keep your child at home, we completely understand and we want to continue to provide home learning for you.

As before, please complete a lesson of Maths and English each day and do the ‘frequently’ section a few times a week. Then you can do the Learning Journey and Science lesson when the mood is right across the week. I have also included an 'Other Learning' section, in case you wanted anything extra!

I hope you are all well, if you need to contact me for help/ a chat/ any form of support please feel free to do so via email- cp@harlandsprimary.org

Stay safe,

Miss Pooley.

Frequently

●       Practice spelling common exception words from the spelling list (attached in Other Learning - English) using the type of activities we usually do in our spelling journals

●       Practise reading common exception words using flashcards or spelling list (attached in Other Learning - English)

●       Read, read, read! If you run out of things to read, here is a link to a website where you can find free e-books http://www.magickeys.com/books/

●       Numbots

●       Card games, board games or cookery

English

In English this week we will be starting our new book 'Juniper Jupiter' by Lizzie Stewart. Please do not read the whole book until instructed to do so, as we have lessons on predicting what happens next in the story. We will be sticking to BBC bitesize again for our phonics lessons this week. Please follow the daily lessons on the PowerPoint. I have also included the Year 1 spelling list for children to practise.

Maths

Please use this link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ and select Year 1  then select Summer Term Week 2. You can follow the week as it is designed. For each lesson there is a video, questions and answers.

Day 1: Summer Term Week 2 - Find a Half (2)

Day 2: Summer Term Week 2 - Find a Quarter

Day 3: Summer Term Week 2 - Find a Quarter (2)

Day 4: Summer Term Week 2 - Problem Solving

Day 5:  Summer Term Week 2 - Friday Maths Challenge (personally, I would stop after challenge 4 and on challenge 4, I would change the 1500ml into 1 litre to make it easier for the children). Like the website says, this is a 'challenge' so made to be worked on with lots of help from parents :)

I have included some 'Mastery Challenge Cards' for lessons 1-3 below. The main activities are provided on the website, as well as below.

Science

This week in Science we will be recapping our 5 senses. If you were a superhero which super-sense would you have and why? Click on the document below for a more detailed explanation of your task. You can even draw your own 'super-sense' hero!

Learning Journey

For our Learning Journey this week we will be looking at a 'real-life superhero' from the past. Use the PowerPoint below to find out about Florence Nightingale. Once you have done this, use the writing template below (or design your own) to create a fact file about Florence Nightingale.

Other Learning

This section is optional. If you are looking for extra work or activities to do then you can choose any of the following files. There's some Maths consolidation tasks, English activities (not based on our core text) and some super hero themed bits too. If you happen to do any of this extra work then, as always, please send in pictures. I would love to see what you've been up to!
