Home learning for Year 1 - Sparrows

Week Beginning 11th May

Dear Sparrows Parents and Children,

I hope this new way of home learning is working well for you all. The idea is to do a lesson of Maths and a lesson of English each day to help with the routine of learning, to do the ‘frequently’ section a few times a week and then to do other Learning Journey and Science lessons when the mood is right across the week. I have also included an 'Other Learning' section, in case you wanted anything extra!

I hope you are all well, if you need to contact me for help/ a chat/ any form of support please feel free to do so via the online chat or email- cp@harlandsprimary.org

Have fun and stay safe,

Miss Pooley.

Frequently

● Practice spelling common exception words from the spelling list (attached in English section) using the type of activities we usually do in our spelling journals

● Practise reading common exception words using flashcards (attached in English section) or spelling list

● Read, read, read! If you run out of things to read, here is a link to a website where you can find free e-books http://www.magickeys.com/books/

● Numbots

● Card games, board games or cookery

English

In English we will be beginning to look at instructions. We will be working on this over the next two weeks and eventually writing our own instructions on how to bake/ cook something. I have seen lots of you baking already so thought this would tie in nicely to what you're already doing. This week we will be focusing on features of instructions.

Maths

In Maths this week we will be using White Rose videos and activities based on Measurement.

Please use this link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ and select Year 1 then select Week 1/2. You can follow the week as it is designed. For each lesson there is a video to follow and questions (with answers) to complete.

Day 1: Week 1 Lesson 5 - Measure capacity

Day 2: Week 2 Lesson 1 - Compare capacity

Day 3: Week 2 Lesson 2 - Count in 10 (recap)

Day 4: Week 2 Lesson 3- Make equal groups

Day 5: Week 2 Lesson 4- Add equal groups

I have included some 'Mastery Challenge Cards' for each lesson below, the main activities are provided below too this week. Enjoy!

Science

This week in Science we will be continuing our topic on Plants. We eat lots of plants everyday, but what part of the plant are we eating? Go through the PowerPoint below and then complete the cut and sort activity provided below.

Learning Journey

For our Learning Journey this week we will be continuing our focus on Geography. This week I am asking you to use the cards below to match the map symbols to their names/ images. There is two sets which you can choose from, or you can have a go with both if you wish!
